Carolyn Janice Cherry urodzona w St. Louis amerykańska pisarka science fiction i fantasy. Autorka ponad 60 książek, wielu opowiadań, laureatka najważniejszych w świecie fantastyki nagród. Najbardziej znana z powieści Cyteen i Stacja Podspodzie, należących do cyklu Unia - Związek. Cykl opisuje odległą o kilka wieków przyszłość ludzkości, która rozpowszechniła się (podróżując z prędkościami relatywistycznymi) po najbliższym kosmosie. Tu doszło do rozłamu i wojny pomiędzy koloniami, które hołduja rozwojowi technologicznemu i wzrostowi ludności poprzez masową produkcję klonów a Ziemią i starymi wartościami.

Cherryh - z dołączona do nazwiska literka "h" to pseudonim, który wymyślił jej pierwszy agent Donald A. Wollheim. Uważał on, że "Cherry" brzmi za miękko jak na pisarza science fiction. Podobnie płeć pisarki ukryto za inicjałami, jak czyniło wtedy wiele pisarek - w latach 70. światek science fiction był zdominowany przez mężczyzn.

Na cześć pisarki asteroidę 77185 nazwano Cherryh.
