Leigh Douglass Brackett Hamilton (1915-1978) amerykańska pisarka science fiction, redaktorka. Żona pisarza SF Eda Hamiltona. Scenarzystka w Hollywood, jej autorstwa są scenariusz takich filmów jak "Rio Bravo", "Imperium kontratakuje".

Jako pisarka science fiction zadebiutowała na początku lat 40. Dość szybko wypracowała własny, niepowtarzalny styl, łączący opowieść detektywistyczną z SF i z filmowym stylem noir. Obok fantastyki pisała zresztą historie detektywistyczne, niewątpliwie pod silnym wpływem twórczości Raymonda Chandlera.

Najbardziej znany jest jej cykl o Ericu Johnie Starku. Stark, sierota od Ziemi, wychowany przez mieszkańców Merkurego, zabitych potem przez Ziemian. Mentorem Starka staje się urzędnik Ziemian, ale w przypadku zagrożenia bohater często wraca do swojej drugiej natury i umiejętności zdobytych w czasie pobytu na Merkurym.

Brackett publikowała przede wszystkim w magazynach pulpowych typu Wonder Stories, kiedy zostały one zamknięte, na jakiś czas przestała publikować. Potem część starych opowiadań przerobiła w powieści. Ale już wtedy rozpoczęła współpracę z Hollywood. Przede wszystkim nawiązała współpracę z reżyserem Howardem Hawksem i pisarzem Williamem Faulknerem, to z niej narodziły sie scenariusze do tak słynnych filmów jak "Wielki sen" z Bogartem czy "Rio Bravo" z Waynem.

Napisała też scenariusz do "Imperium kontratakuje", choć tu toczą się pewne spory co do procentowego udziału Brackett w tej historii. Niewątpliwie George Lucas zlecił jej napisanie scenariusza, który pisarka oddała na krótko przed swoją śmiercią na raka w 1978 roku. Szlif scenariuszowi nadał zaś Lawrence Kasdan.
