John Dickson Carr (1906-1977) – amerykański pisarz, autor kryminałów, który spędził większość życia w Anglii, zwany mistrzem zagadek zamkniętego pokoju. Twórca postaci dwóch słynnych detektywów: dr. Gideona Fella oraz Sir Henry'ego Merrivale'a. Elelemnty fantastyki zawiera powieść Diabeł w aksamitach.
Zmarł na raka płuca w wieku 70 lat.
