Ian Watson (ur. 20 kwietnia 1943 w St Albans) jest brytyjskim autorem science fiction. Aktualnie mieszka w Hiszpanii z żoną. Z racji tego, że rodzice wciąż podróżowali, mieszkał i chodził do szkół w wielu krajach - skłonność do podróży w nim pozostała, bywa na wielu konwentach w różnych częściach świata. Odwiedził parokrotnie Polskę (Polcony i festiwal w Nidzicy).

Jego pierwsza powieść, The Embedding, dostała nagrodę Apollo Prix w 1975. Napisał takie powieści jak: Miracle Visitors, God's World, The Jonah Kit oraz The Flies of Memory i wiele zbiorów opowiadań. Pracował też nad scenariuszem do obrazu A.I. Sztuczna inteligencja.

Napisał też serię o powieściach do serii gier Warhammer 40.000, Draco, Chaos Child a także Harlequin (wspólny tytuł The Inquisition War).

Był redaktorem naczelnym Foundation: The Review of Science Fiction.

W Polsce znany z kilku powieści i bardzo sugestywnych opowiadań. W tym z powieści opartych na fińskiej sadze Mana, projekt pisarz jednak porzucił.
